Restaurant Review: City Market Bistro
By Jeff Stolowitz
In a word “Quaint” is how I describe City Market Bistro.
It is a great find for those seeking that one place you see pictures of and say, “I’m going to go and find that place” and so I did.
Table for 2 mid afternoon on a Wednesday in November, Behind New Smyrna Beach on Canal Street. 2 couples dining at tables on the sidewalk and if you weren’t paying attention you could walk right past the place and just not know it was there.
First course was a play on Ciabatta with Marinated Seasonal Organic Cherry Tomatoes and Herbed Riccota. Tangy and smooth and topped with Pickled Red Onions that added a 3rd dimension of flavor to this appetizer.
We then ordered the Ceasar Salad it was as it was supposed to be simple and crisp. I might add the croutons melted in your mouth. Hail Caesar!!!
Then we sampled a Shrimp and Andoulli Sausage Mac and Cheese Paired with Steamed Mussels that had fresh Tomato and White Wine Broth.
We melted with the Mac and were breathless after trying the Mussels which had perfectly done hand cut Fries, both dishes were as we say SPOT ON…
A return visit will be needed to hit them up on a Sunday, after all who doesn’t love Brunch with French Pressed Coffee tableside.
We might add our service was outstanding as well as the entire ambient feeling of this place.
