Third Wave Cafe & Wine Bar
Third Wave Cafe & Wine Bar, it’s hard to imagine how a place that has survived so many challenges from Covid-19 to Short Staff has thrived to the point whereas a dining patron you know to arrive early and patiently wait for your seats.
In any case Twas the night after St. Paddy’s Day 2022. New Smyrna Beach had just had a record-breaking spring break crowd. So, it was no surprise and I planned on a long wait but being familiar with how things work I managed to find a seat at the upstairs Cafe and ordered a Bottle of Belle Glos Pinot Noir. The wine was first introduced to me when I was a Captain at Roots Steakhouse in Summit NJ.
The upstairs cafe faces Flagler Avenue, and the overall essence of this place is a pure Taste of Florida.
I waited less than the time the hostess told me I’d be waiting and went to the back where Dylan our mixologist for the evening was glad to welcome us to his bar.
About the Wine
It had always been a fantastic selling wine but not something I had come across at any of the area’s other eateries. The 2018 vintage was perfectly “well rounded” as my eating partner Courtney would say.
This wine is “Jammified“, and quaffable with smooth subtle tannins. It can definitely be enjoyed on its own or like this night with a meal. A perfect glass intended for the wine was used. The big bowl and narrow mouth allowing the wine to open. Slight rose notes along with the berry scents catch your senses. This was just one of the wines.
Don’t forget to go through there wine list its fantastic. After all Wine Spectator has given them awards. We do also.
THE MEAL
Our meal started with the Charcuterie Board. Please don’t ask me to describe the whole thing, suffice it to say, cheese, nuts, berries, orange blossom honey, etc… an absolutely delicious way to start.
We also had the artichoke dip…a dish sent from the “Artichoke Gods” that makes you keep wanting more.
My Entree the Seafood Valenciana was a
Garlic shallot sauté of Calamari, east coast
shrimp, Northern mussels from New Hampshire, chorizo, organic peas, over herb scented Bomba rice, Saffron tomato broth. It made me smile from ear to ear, but it was truthfully one of the tastiest things I have had like this in years.
A Twisted Wedge, Salad and Filet which I’d say was worthy of savoring as you wash it down with a sip of the wine. Some Fresh Catch just filled the space as we all simply agreed that we are blessed to have great eateries like this in our backyards.
We keep going back once you eat here you are hooked.
